At first I should express my appreciation to IAESTE for her help
during the whole procedure of my training. On the whole, most of
her work was in a fine order of cooperation so that many potential
troubles were avoided. And I am especially grateful to that kind
girl in IAESTE Hellas, who picked me up in mid-night on my arrival
in Athens. But unfortunately I could hardly remember her name before
her hurried departure for Germany. Just one week later when I picked
up another Chinese student at the same time and that same place,
I started to get known that to pick somebody up in mid-night was
such a hard work.
I'd like to review my training experience in 3 main aspects.
1. Working on Kamari plant in TITAN Cement Company S.A.
My job was to establish a new database for quality control department.
In more details, the new software included the input interface for
all analyses results, macros for automatic calculations and statistics,
and report generator. Because of the particular working and living
habits of Greek people, I feel easy at first but extremely busy
at the last week. Maybe Greek people are glad to enjoy the free
time until the deadline. Anyway, I succeeded in finishing the task
with my background knowledge in both computer science and chemical
engineering.
2. Living in Omega Hotel
Most of IAESTE students to Greece were living in Athens, and most
of those in Athens were living in Omega Hotel. That was the best
thing that I enjoyed rather than the comfortable living conditions.
I used to talk with foreign friends like others did. But I usually
focused on those friends from undeveloped countries; some are even
special, such as Palestine, Jordan, Yugoslavia, Moldova, Slovenia
and etc. We could have a long chat through the night. We had serious
topics and those were communications between thoughts. Finally,
we became friends, the real friends unlike those around the table
during dinner time.
3. Feeling Greece with my body
Hellas is such a charming name that I feel untouchable. IAESTE Hellas
has organized a pretty good tour project taking the weekends and
holidays, which was very helpful to us. For time limited, I didn't
participate in all the tours. But the Acropolis, Delphi, Olympia,
Sounion and island Angistri are quite enough to me. I had good preparations
before each trip since all of them were sacred to me. During workdays,
I tried to learn anything in Greece from my friends. All above ensure
me a fruitful journey to Europe.
At last, if we Chinese students could have our Chinese food at meal,
the trip should have been perfect.
