Trainee's report
kostantinos angelakis
Greece

When i came to china i didn't know what i expected to see, to find out, to learn. The thoughts in my mind were a bit blur. I had watched some documentaries on tv and read some books about china so i was prepared to face a completely different reality.

And this is what happened as far as the culture is concerned. I was amazed by the chinese traditional architecture though i felt a little disappointed that many new buildings do not honour tradition (with many exceptions of course).

I found myself trying to memorize old chinese melodies and i enjoyed many times people playing chinese instruments.

But the most surprising experience i had in china is the interaction with chinese people.

I could not believe how friendly and hospitable they where all to me. After the second week i felt like i was home with my own people who understood and cared for me. I thought that sincere hospitality was a greek characteristic; now i know i was wrong. I wouldn't have seen not half of what i saw of china if i didn't have the help of my chinese "peng you"!

In the workplace though my study field did not match exactly with the kind of work that was being carried out, my colleagues showed exceptional understanding and helped me gain as many experiences as i could from the time i spend in the office.

I practised in the use of programs like flash, dreamweaver, photoshop and 3d studio max. Through tutorials and special tasks i learned many details on setting up a web page. I learned a lot about modelling on 3d studio and how useful it can be in the work of an engineer.

I had the chance to see professionals work and deal with every problem that occurred in the way.

Last but not least, i had to use my english in a working environment which was a good experience for me as far as terminology is concerned, and i think i made a good start in learning chinese too!

Closing this report i would like to state that two months is a very short period of time for someone who visits china, but i think that if you are open-minded and if you try to use every moment available, you can get a small glimpse of the characteristics and values of the chinese civilization.

I believe that i have been successful at least on that.

I wish i could have a second chance to come here and stay for more time.
